Windows 10 - I Keep Having To Uninstall and Reinstall the Connector

$

Hello:

On one of my laptops which I upgraded to Windows 10, it frequently does not not let me sign in to Windows Home Server's connector with proper credentials.  The connector spins for a while when I boot-up of the laptop, unable to connect using previously good credentials, and then asks if I want to use Offline mode.  I say NO, and enter the proper username and password, but it always fails.  The only cure for this is to uninstall and reinstall the connector.  Is this a quirky problem with my Windows 10 PC using Windows Home Server 2011, or part of a bigger problem where it loses the ability to connect using the Connector software on a Windows 10 machine?

Thanks,

Windows Home Server Connector Won't Start

Hello:

I have a Windows 10 Lenovo laptop that fails to start the connector.  Even when I enter the name and password, it doesn't connect.  I narrowed the problem down to a service that doesn't start:  WSS_ComputerBackupPRoviderSvc.  If I shut down the connector, start that service, and restart the connector, it works.

In my searches of the Internet, I did find a note about extending the Registry timeout of some registry entry, but I don't like altering the registry.

Is there a solution for this, or at least, can I be pointed to exact step by step instructions for making the registry update?

Thanks,

WHS11 Alert Viewer Fails When Launchpad Opens

Hello:

I'm making progress.  At least now when I boot my Lenovo Laptop Windows 10 with Windows Home Server 2011, the launchpad successfully opens.  About 20 seconds after it opens, the Alert Viewer always fails with this message:

"Alert Viewer Error"
Alert Notices are not available in the Alert Viewer due to an error, or incomplete action, or a service has stopped working....

I tried the suggestions from several articles, including checking to make sure my task scheduler worked.  I applied all updates to both Windows 10 and WHS 2011.

Any ideas?  If I can't fix it, I would like to know how to disable the alert viewer from the startup.

Thanks,

Recovering Client Computer Backups from a different source

Hi,

I have 700GB of Client Computer Backups in a cloud backup and only want to retrieve a 100KB file. Are there any specific files that I can download to give me a tree view of where my file within the Client Computer Backups files exists or do I need to download and restore the whole lot?

The file I'm after exists within the AppData\Roaming folder.

WHS 2011 Launchpad is blank in Windows 10

The WHS 2011 Launchpad opens. Ir will not sign on automatically as it does in Win 7. Manual sign in is required by entering Username and Password. The Launchpad then changes to its usual green backgrounf but without any text other that LAUNCHPAD at the top in white. So there are no links to click to access Shared Folders or Dashboard, for example.

WHS Can't be found when installing connector

I've been trying to resolve this for a long time, gave up for a while, now I'm trying again.

I have a backup of a computer that died, motherboard failure, and I want to get access to the files.

Whenever I try to install the Connector program on another PC, it can never find it. Is there some trick that I'm missing?

Thanks,

Homegroup

I upgraded my HP laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 back in September 2015. I set up a HomeGroup that connected the loptop to my printers via a wireless cable modem to a switch. It worked just fine.

Recently, I bought a new HP laptop with Windows 10 installed. When I went to set up the HomeGroup, it found the HomeGroup from my other laptop. When I tried to add the new laptop to the HomeGroup, it asked for a password. I went to my old laptop to get the password and couldn't access it.

I exited the Join HomeGroup page from the new laptop and when it returned to the HomeGroup window, the old HomeGroup no longer appeared. It said no HomeGroup existed.

I then when to the old laptop to retrieve the password and at the HomeGroup window, it showed no HomeGroup on the network. The "Create a HomeGroup" button was active so I proceeded to create a HomeGroup. When I went to set up a HomeGroup, it gets to the "Share with other HomeGroup Members", it says "Windows cannot set up Homegroup on this computer.

Upon browsing solutions, none work including deleting idstore.sset file and then reboot. No change in the problem. Of course, I ran the HomeGroup Troubleshooter tool and network tool everywhere along the way with no problems found or fixed.

I also went to Admin tools. Peering Network Goup & Peering Name Resolution Protocol are not running. When I try to start them (regardless of whether they are in Manual or Automatic mode) I get a 1068 Error for PNG & Error 0X80630203 for PNRP.

Finally, my existing network is still functioning on the old laptop, because I can still print to my network printer via WIFI. All that to say, the HomeGroup is still functioning, but not visible or recognizable in the HomeGroup window.

I don't want to join my new laptop until I resolve the old HomeGroup issue. But, I am open to suggestions.

Please help!

Booting from Windows Home Server 2011 Recovery dvd or server made flash drive and getting BSOD before I even get into recovery mode

$

I am running Windows Home Server 2011 in my house.  Have 4 pc's attached to it and each does backups to the server nightly.  One of my machines uses the UEFI bios instead of MBR and the rest use MBR.  As you might have guessed the UEFI machine is having the bsod when trying to boot the recovery media.  I have an ASUS ROG G20AJ with windows 8.1 64bit professional installed  but this issue isn't even at the point of windows it's about the recovery media and its ability to boot my machine.

When i try to boot the machine using the restore cd I got with my server or the updated media I created via the usb key you can make both situtation during the splash screen start up.  It's the screen that looks like windows 7's bootup screen the machine must be loading drivers because that is where I get the BSOD. Snbsp;FWIW, I have been able to boot this pc up using windows 8, 8.1, and windows 10 media. The same thing going on now happens when I try and windows 7 media.  I gather since the recovery environment from WHS 2011 is based on windows 7 that's why.

I read on the web that you disable secure boot in the bios and this problem goes away.  For me this was not the case.  I spoke with ASUS about it and their reply to me was get updated media for the Bare Metal Restore.  I cannot find anything newer than creating the media via usb key or using the dvd that my server comes with.

Like I said the other 3 machines using MBR all boot fine from the media.  I do have the latest hotfix applied which updates my WHS2011 installation to support UEFI bios's and GPT partitions.  That's why I say the flash drive usb key is updated recovery media cause as far as I know that is newer than what came with my Server originally.

It feels like a driver issue but I cannot see which one.  I am able to press f8 if I hit that before picking the os architecture.  I see the screen where you can select 32 bit or 64 bit.  Once I make a choice it goes to splash screen then a BSOD.  I can before hitting one of those options press f8 and select safe mode but it does the same thing.  This one really has me stumped.

NOTE: I have disabled Secure boot and it did not fix the issue.  Verified in the bios secure boot disabled and PK unloaded.

Bare Metal Restore Problems: USB Vs Client Restore DVD.

I am using WHS 2011, all updates including the UEFI hot fix (KB2781272).  I am able to do a USB bare metal restore on my older Intel Core 2 Duo computer (Intel DG33TL MB) with no issues.  On my newer computer a Haswell Xeon (MSI H81M-P33 MB) the USB restore fails.  I have the BIOS set to "Legacy+UEFI" and I am not using any UEFI features that I am aware of.  I have tried setting the boot options to both USB and UEFI USB and it fails the same in both cases (before getting to the driver install screen) with the message  "The exception Cannot Continue.  Windows cannot continue from this exception. (0xc0000025) occurred at location 0xff18b477."  I was able to restore the drive by doing it on my older computer.  I also eventually found that I could use the Client restore disk that came with WHS 2011 to restore the computer (I had to load the NIC drivers at the driver install step which I didn't have to do on my Intel computer).

My question is: why does the USB restore fail?

New Drives seen in Disk Manager but not Dashboard after Re-install

$

I've had some problems with Launchpad and CA on a Win 7 Client which I thought I had fixed with help from the forums.

My system is a HP Microliant N36 with the WHS2011 on a 250gb HDD, with 2x2Tb drives for Shared Folders and an External HHD on USB3.0 for Server Backup - it has run reliably for several years.

The external disk crashed and was replaced but I had lost my server backups. I added 2x3TB HDDs (as GPT and both partitioned as a 2040Gb and a 740Gb partition) to increase Shared Folder storage and moved the Shared folders onto them.

That was OK, but then I was having more problems with Launchpad so eventually, since I had no viable server backup I decided to re-install WHS2011 using the original disk, which I did.

I ended up with a new (empty)set of Shared folders on the second (170Gb) partition of the System HDD (which is not where I wanted them), but the old Shared folders I had moved to the new drives were not visible, as Dashboard only shows the original 2x2TB drives, the System drive and the external drive. The new 2x3Tb drives are not visible in Dashboard or in Windows Explorer. They are visible in Disk Manager but are not explorable.

Any idea how I can get the data from the new 3 TB drives back into the WHS database and have it acknowledged in the Shared folders again?

Windows Home Server 2011 Connector not compatible with Windows 10 10.0.10586

$

I have been trawling the web for help on this problem, but so far have turned up nothing that will help.

I have a Win10 client running 10.0.10586 and WHS 2011 server running 6.1.7601 .

After a fresh uninstall/re-install of the Connector software on the Win10 client, everything works OK, but the connection fails at next log-in.

The Connector icon is greyed out, and I get a message asking me if I want to enter Off-Line mode.

I have run the Connector Troubleshooter, but this yields all sorts of seemingly unrelated errors including the Connector being the wrong version (despite being installed from the server http://<myserver>/connect).

I have read online about the C:\Program Files\Windows Server\Bin\WebApps\Client\Package\supportedOS.xml file on the server. Clearly this does not contain Win10 as a supported OS.. is this the problem??

Really need your help to resolve this..

Can not sign in to WHS2011 after upgrading to Windows 10

Since I have upgraded my pc to Windows 10, the WHS2011 connector icon is gray and I can't sign in unless it's in offline mode. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the connector and have also tried connecting with the server URL. Neither method worked. Is there a new version of the connector for Windows 10 or is there some other solution for this problem?

Windows Firewall

I have Windows 10 Home.  I was using Comodo firewall, I uninstalled it,  turned on Windows 10 Firewall, downloaded Windows Firewall control and installed it. All is cool, except now noticing that all outgoing connections,  say "WindowsFirewall: Comodo Connect V4 Outgoing".

Why is anything going through a non existent firewall?  I have flushed DNS,  searched for any leftover Comodo instances and found nothing. Please tell me, how do I fix this?

Any help will be so appreciated!

WHS2011 Launchpad connector doesn't start up, message: "Logging configuration cannot be loaded. Logging has been disabled"

I have WHS2011 installed and 3 clients. I have a windows7 x64 desktop as a client, there following problem appears.

After I had to do a on/of button restart of my pc today.  Launchpad to connect to server is not starting up/appearing anymore.

This is a very unpleasant situation, as it gives no acces to the files as on server directly from my computer. Dashboard and remote logging in are fine.

I have already a few times uninstalled the connector software and re-installed after accessing the server via http:sever/connect

But this doesn't make sense, My Pc is within the network, I can click on files I see under the server icon ..but clicking on these files within the server brings nothing. I can get no access.

Trying starting up launchpad directly from "programmes"gives only a textbox mentioning: "Logging configuration cannot be loaded. Logging has been disabled"

What do I have to do, to get this working again? Please anybody who can help me...as this is very annoying and uncomfortable working situation.

Thanks in advance

WHS 2011 Connector Install on Windows 10 Machine Fails

$

When installing the connector client on my W10 machines, it goes for about a minute and then fails / exits.  If I look at the csetup.log file under c:/programdata/Microsoft/Windows Server/ I can see the install launches clientdeploy.exe, waits 60 seconds and then times out and exits.  The log file end is as follows:

RunShellExecute: ShellExecute [C:\Windows\Temp\Client Deployment Files\ClientDeploy.exe] with parameters [(null)]

CSetup::Run: Waiting upto 60secs for Sync Event to be signaled
CSetup::Run: WaitForSingleObject RetVal = 258
CSetup::Run: WaitForSingleObject TimedOut

wmain: End of CSetup: hr=0x0

 =======End of Log=======

I have googled around and found similar issues but no resolution at this point.  I have tried:

Turning off firewall and antivirus

Running as adminstrator

There were some forum posts on Media Center services not running on the client machine but W10 does not have media center so not sure if that was an issue.

Updating the WHS with all the most recent updates.

Installing and uninstalling WS 2012 Essentials W10 compatible connector (some say this helps).

There are also a ton of people who say they successfully connect W10 to WHS 2011 so I am at a bit of a loss.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Get 404 error when trying to access the WHS 2011 Connect Page

When I try to install the WHS 2011 Dashboard / Connector, by entering http://<my-server-name>/connect, I get a "404 - The Webpage cannot be found" error. The same thing happens if I substitute the IP address of the WHS host.

Platform - Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1

  • For various reasons, I uninstalled the WHS 2011 Connector software. Now I'm trying to reinstall it.
  • I get the same error in IE and Firefox
  • I can ping, browse and do a Remote Desktop Connection to my WHS 2011 server.

I seem to remember something similiar happening with my WHS 1 connector software. Do you just get one shot at installing WHS clients?

Windows Home Server Hacked via remote desktop

I had someone brute forced my server running a fully patched version of whs 2011. they filled my logs with denied long on attempts. but finely got in. they installed several users and logins. I had a user that would auto login and start Itunes to play music 24/7. This user they changed the password. i found it as i walked by and found the computer locked instead of Itunes running.

what do I do next, and does Microsoft want to look at the logs to see what user name worked?

How can I made sure that it is secure in the future.

Windows 10 Pro PC Cannot Access WHS2011 Shares - Error Code 0x80070035

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, version 1511, OS build 10586 on my desktop PC.  I'm connecting to my Windows Home Server 2011 shares, my Surface Pro 3 and other Home Theater PCs - they're all connected to the same Homegroup.

When I go to File Explorer, click on Network, and then click on my Home Server (\\WHS2011-JGC), I get the following error:

Image

I never get a prompt from my credentials, however, my local network is working as expected...as far as I can see.

If I go to File Explorer and try to access my Home Server directly by entering \\WHS2011-JGC and press enter, then I receive a prompt for my credentials.  Once I enter them then I have access to my Home Server shares.

Any idea on what's going on here and how I can correct this?  FYI - I've never encountered this issue on any of my PCs running Windows 7 and 8.1.

Thanks for any help you can offer here.
